Beyond Our Words ®

A Somatic (Mind / Body / Spirit) Approach to Growing with Our Grief

Beyond Words

The workshop, created by The LIGHT Movement, is a 2-hour experience designed to help participants understand the physiological impact of grief and learn somatic tools for growth and integration.

Rooted in the goals of The LIGHT Movement, the workshop aims to remind participants they are not alone, teach science-based somatic practices to support mind-body integration, and foster meaning-making and purpose in grief.

Through an inclusive and supportive environment, attendees explore concepts like contraction and expansion, polyvagal theory, the window of tolerance, and vagus nerve regulation. Practical tools, including gentle yoga, breathwork, bilateral movements, and vagus nerve stimulation, are practiced to empower participants to navigate their grief. The session concludes with reflection and grounding, offering a pathway to self-compassion and community solidarity while honoring diverse grief experiences.

This workshop equips participants with actionable knowledge and practices to continue growing with their grief journeys.

Resilience & Renewal

A Somatic Approach to Transforming Stress and Burnout

Working with trauma and grief can be profoundly meaningful—and profoundly draining. Constant exposure to pain and loss often leads to burnout, marked by exhaustion, emotional numbness, and a loss of connection to purpose. This is not a personal failing but a natural response to carrying heavy emotional labor. Renewal begins with awareness: recognizing the signs of compassion fatigue and honoring the need for rest and restoration. Resilience grows through boundaries, peer support, reflective practices, and somatic tools that regulate the nervous system. By tending to our own well-being, we not only prevent burnout but also sustain the capacity to accompany others with presence, strength, and hope.

Grief and Development Across the Lifespan

This presentation explores the science of grief and how trauma and loss impact human development across the lifespan. From infancy through end-of-life, grief shapes both cognitive and physical responses, often leaving lasting imprints on how individuals grow, relate, and adapt. By examining grief through a developmental lens, we can better understand the ways it influences the body, brain, and behavior. The session will also introduce somatic-based tools that support healing, regulation, and resilience at every stage of life.

Grieving While Supporting Another's Grief

Supporting others in grief while carrying your own loss is both tender and challenging. It requires balancing compassion with boundaries. Holding space doesn’t mean fixing or minimizing their pain—it means offering presence, listening without judgment, and honoring their experience. At the same time, it’s vital to acknowledge your own grief, pace your energy, and practice self-care so you don’t become depleted. By allowing honesty, vulnerability, and mutual support, you create a shared space where both griefs can coexist, reminding each other that no one has to carry loss alone.

Somatics in a Business World

In today’s fast-paced work environments, stress and disconnection from the body can diminish creativity, focus, and well-being. Somatic practices—grounding, breathwork, mindful movement, and body awareness—help professionals regulate stress, improve communication, and foster resilience. By integrating somatic tools, individuals become more present, adaptable, and attuned to both themselves and their teams. This leads to healthier workplace cultures, stronger leadership, and sustainable performance. Somatics in business isn’t about slowing down productivity—it’s about cultivating embodied awareness that drives clarity, innovation, and authentic connection.
